For Elves, marriage only requires the “act of bodily union” and the invocation of the name of Eru. Marriage often occurs early in life, and frequently between childhood sweethearts. This is the case in Aman, at least. Elves avoid the conception of children in times of war, or when parents face a long separation.
Where do elves come from?
They are supernatural beings in Germanic mythology and folklore, elves were first attested in Old English and Old Norse texts and are prominent in English and Scandinavian folklore. In early modern folklore, they were connected with fairies.
How did elves start?
Like men of the time, elves lived in kingdoms found in forests, meadows, or hollowed-out tree trunks. Elves, fairies, and leprechauns are all closely related in folklore, though elves specifically seem to have sprung from early Norse mythology.
What created elves?
Spenser also presented his own explanation of the origins of the Elfe and Elfin kynd, claiming that they were created by Prometheus. Likewise, William Shakespeare, in a speech in Romeo and Juliet (1592) has an "elf-lock" (tangled hair) being caused by Queen Mab, who is referred to as "the fairies' midwife".
